This past Friday, the Stamford Marriot hosted hundreds of NCHS students for the 2013 Senior Prom. As seniors arrived to one of the biggest social events on our school’s calendar, their clothes were photographed and on display for all to notice. After careful consideration, here are the ten looks that I found most outstanding from this year’s Senior Prom.
Eileen’s dress was one of the first ones I saw and upon initial glance it instantly drew my attention. Created by none other than Sue Wong, this cream colored gown looked like dynamite. Take Eileen’s million dollar smile and pair it with a Sue Wong dress and you’ve got yourself nothing short of perfection. But wait, there’s more. Just when I thought I couldn’t get enough, I noticed her Kate Spade gold earrings and was that much more satisfied. You go girl.
“I think she looked very elegant and classic in a dress that I though was timeless, and had hair that matched the look perfectly.” -Abbie Stone
Bridget Falcone – Lilly Pulitzer
Lilly DID rest in peace. In true Lilly-girl form, Miss B wore a blue and green silk dress, accented with a delicate gold piece at the neckline. The dress was dotted with metallic circles all the way to the hem. Bridget wore her hair up, sweeping into a polished bun. Palm Beach would be proud to host this incoming Franklin and Marshall freshman.
“I loved Bridget’s look. It was so original and the colors looked amazing on her.” –Eliza Ranieri
When I look at Kate Howard’s pre-prom photos, I can’t help but think of Alicia Keys’ “This Girl is on Fire”, because that’s just what she is. Making my best dressed list for the second year in a row, Kate took prom by storm in a radiant green Neiman Marcus design with an unparalleled up-do. What made this dress so interesting wasn’t simply the color, but the triple layered bow at the top of the gown, adding a mark of high-end couture that truly made it distinctive. I don’t know anyone else who could pull off such a mature and fashion forward dress other than Kate Howard. Definitely a favorite.
“Not only was her dress utterly unique, it was flattering and the color complimented her skin tone beautifully.” -Ember Parker
Natalie Gilhool – Alice and Olivia
Can Nate ever go wrong? From gracing J-Prom with a gorgeous mini dress that left mouths gaping, to 2012 Senior Prom with a look no one will ever forget, she took it all home with a rose-colored, floor-length Alice and Olivia gown. What was unique about her dress was the translucent overlay that covered the mini underneath it. A nude strappy heel was the perfect finishing touch, as well as a delicate gold necklace to accent her flawless tan. Natalie looks as if she is already in Florida. Watch out Rollins, here she comes.
“It was really beautiful on her particularly because the light pink color was so fresh and fun.” –Christy Coco
Kelly Armstrong – Ralph Lauren
My girl Kelly Armstrong made her mark in a memorable Ralph Lauren skin-tight black gown paired with a gold She La La cuff and turquoise dangly earrings. Wow. Kelly decided to trade her lacrosse stick and sweatpants for a stunning prom look and left the entire senior class in awe. The entire ensemble looked absolutely perfect in photos, as the entire school obviously knows from stalking her pictures on Saturday. But her winning look isn’t limited to her dress, oh no. The combination of bouncy blond hair and jewelry really made her shine bright like a diamond. Well done Kelly!
“Her dress really showed off her shape in a sleek and sexy manner. She totally rocked it!” –Kaelin Campbell
I honestly didn’t think it was possible to have such a perfect prom look two years in a row, but once again, Sara Greene is my number one favorite look of our prom. Gossip Girl once said “You’re no one until you’re talked about”, and that mentality certainly applies to this ensemble. Sara had the entire grade buzzing in her Theia egg-shell colored petal gown this past Friday, as she walked into prom with confidence and grace. Paired with pearl earrings and a meticulous side braid, Sara had me in complete admiration. How does she do it? That is something we’ll never know, but we hope to see more pictures of her outshining the rest of her class at Wake Forest next year. Literally perfect.
“Sara’s easy braid and gorgeous white dress put Blake Lively to shame. It was so Gossip Girl.” –Julia Hardy
Jessica Laird – Badgley Mischka
This is how you do it everyone. THIS is how to look effortlessly unique and fierce at prom. Jessica Laird rocked an elegant Bradgley Mischka gown in a way that no one has ever done before. She took a timeless look and showed the senior class that staying true to a classic look can only help you look that much more amazing. My favorite part of this entire look was the neckline though. Thank you Jessica for proving that you don’t need zebra prints and glitter to get attention at prom, but rather true class and real confidence. Such a great look.
“Jessica looked absolutely amazing at prom. I feel that she selected an elegant style that complimented her bone structure and dress. Her beautiful Badgley Mischka gown was a stunning shade of magenta that fit her perfectly. She killed it.” -Ariana Ross
Martel Bruno – Alice and Olivia
I really loved Martel Bruno’s dress. This Alice and Olivia Maisie-Sweetheart Cut maxi flare dress looked amazing against her sun-kissed skin and had everyone buzzing. The ideal sweetheart neckline and tie-dye blue print was the perfect combination and photographed like no other dress that night. What I liked about this look was the specific sheerness that layered over the white fabric below. It’s one of those pieces that can be dressed up or down, but a look that never appears less that perfect. 10/10 for Martel.
“Martel looked beautiful at prom this year because her hair and makeup worked perfectly with her dress, which I was just as obsessed with.” –Sara Wilson
I’ve always admired Izzi Schipper’s willingness to take fashion risks and once again, her fearlessness paid off. This dress looked like liquid against her tall and skinny body and fit her so well it might as well have been custom made. The color was a great choice against her olive toned skin, but it was the belt that made it an Izzi Schipper classic. I don’t know anyone else who would be daring enough to take a leather shoe lace and tie it around their prom dress to emphasize their body structure and flaunt their hip bones. Everything about this look was so original and is one we’ll never see again. Creative, well-fitted, and one of a kind.
“Her whole body, including her face, has this amazing bone structure that makes her look so modelesque, so even when she wears something so simple, she can make it look absolutely elegant.” –Ashley Kong
Like with everything else she wears, Kristin’s style will surely be remembered. This amazing BCBG red and magenta colored dress was paired with turquoise earrings and was definitely one of my favorites. Kristin knew how to incorporate gold She La La and Tory Burch accessories well with her prom dress, and stayed true to her preppy style with Steve Madden gold sandals. Not only did she dress herself perfectly, but she also photographed her look flawlessly. You can try to compete with Kristin Laub when it comes to prom, but at the end of the day, we know she’ll always be on the list. Well done once again.
“The dress fit Kristin really well and I thought that her jewelry complemented the dress without stealing it’s thunder.” –Liza Swindell
Honorable Mention
Devon Hoffman – L*Space via shopbop.com
After seeing Convent of the Sacred Heart senior Devon Hoffman at prom, I knew I had to put her on the list. This girl looked amazing in a cover-up maxi dress with an effortless drape. The wooden beads on her dress highlighted the crocheted bodice, and the straps accross the tie and back left everyone looking her way. The girls of NCHS could learn a lot from Devon’s decision to wear a subtle yet chic dress, matched with an interesting braided hairstyle and black clutch.
We vote for Kelly, Eileen, and Devon – and their dates!
