Most of the big games this week were played on Sunday, but the biggest news in the NFL happened on Saturday. Jovan Belcher, a 25 year old Chiefs player from Long Island, committed murder-suicide when he killed his girlfriend and then shot and killed himself at the team’s practice facility. This was obviously a terrible tragedy, and I won’t get into too many details, but you can read an article here that gives you more information.
What initially looked like a mediocre NFL slate turned into a pretty good group of games this weekend with a number of story lines. There were a few games with very good teams, a few with surprising outcomes, and some that had crucial injuries.

Wednesday night’s game to open the NFL season saw the Dallas Cowboys knock off the defending champions, the New York Giants.

I must admit, I’m a little upset about this Super Bowl. I was rooting hard for the Ravens and 49ers, because, anything would’ve been better than another Giants-Patriots Super Bowl. It’s not that I have anything against either of the teams, they’re both very good franchises who have good teams. I don’t think they are the two best teams this year, but that’s besides the point. It’s just that unless it’s my favorite team, the Packers, I’m generally adverse to teams winning two or more Super Bowls in a short time period.
