The start of a new year also brings a new anchor to the Rams Sport Report, junior Johnny Osterndorf. When TV Broadcasting teacher Roman Cebulski declared that a new anchor spot would open, many jumped at the chance to pursue a higher role in the weekly announcements.

TV exec directs broadcast students

At 10 a.m. on Sunday Nov. 18, a crew of television broadcast students were hard at work in the auditorium preparing for the filming and production of the Salant Lecture. By 3 p.m. the students had only taken a break for lunch, and were still hard at work behind heavy equipment and under hot lights. Every step the students executed was crucial for the preparation of making the event run smoothly. The mounting pressure of the names they would be working with echoed periodically throughout the auditorium. The Salant Lecture was moderated by Brian Williams and guest panel members included Joe Scarborough, David Gergen and Peter C. Goldmark Jr. These panel members arrived around 5:30 p.m. to prepare for their discussion about the consequences of the recent election and the next four years. At 7 p.m. the show started and the students went live.

As teachers begin to wrap up their classes, the overhead announcements come on and finally second period is over: “Would all teachers please turn to channel 78 for this morning’s announcements”. It’s Friday morning and students begin crowding around TVs in the lounge, classrooms and the library to watch.

Soon enough, the Rams Sports Report comes on screen, along with the much anticipated announcements of Brendon Baker and Taylor Wilson. For these two sportscasters, announcing sports on live camera looks natural. But where did these two boys come from?

On Feb. 23, the sixth annual Technology Night (Tech Night) was held in the cafeteria and the Wagner Room and was attended by over 400 students, parents and teachers alike. This event, the brainchild of Director of Technology Robert Miller and South School’s Technology Integrator Ronna Van Veghal, allows students to showcase the ways in which they use and create technology to enhance learning in and out of school. Likewise, teachers are given the opportunity to present how they are using technology to facilitate learning in the classroom.
