Students chosen to receive awards at annual recognition assembly

On June 1, students and faculty of NCHS assembled in the auditorium to recognize the accomplishments of its seniors, juniors and a few sophomores. The annual award ceremony congratulated notable members of the student body for their achievements in the past school year. According to Assistant Principal Ari Rothman, the students chosen to receive awards at the assembly are the best representatives of NCHS.

Dr. Luizzi Reflects

This new school year saw the rise of a new administration under a new principal, Dr. Bryan Luizzi. Dr. Luizzi originally came from Brookfield High School where he served for two years as the assistant principal, and then five years as the principal. He has also worked as the assistant principal of Whisconier Middle School, the dean of students in Litchfield High School, an English teacher and master of technology operations for Newtown Public School. He has degrees from Columbia University, Sacred Heart University, Western Connecticut State University and Clemson University. Here, he reflects on what his transition has been like.

NCHS finally opened its doors to students on Tuesday, September 6, after an extended week of summer due to Hurricane Irene. We had been busy assembling the news section in preparation for September long before August 31, the original NCPS start date in 2011. Not discouraged by the storm, the faculty and students had high spirits about meeting their teachers, adjusting to their schedule and getting back into the routine of waking up at 6:30 every morning. September has provided much material for our section.

A new year and a new Principal bring new expectations

As summer ends and the 2011-2012 year rolls around, school starts with new leadership under Principal Bryan Luizzi, the successor of Principal Tony Pavia. Previously the 5-year Principal of Brookefield High School, Dr. Luizzi aims to become an active participant in the NCHS community.
