Senior athletes train over summer for college debuts

As Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIACs) and states start to wrap up, senior athletes are preparing to leave the turf fields of NCHS as they move on to college athletics. But for these athletes, summer is not just a vacation: it is also a training session to prepare for them for their upcoming chapter as a college athlete.

Teach me how to Captain

For the past few years, the Rams Football team has maintained a solid reputation as “the team to beat.” For this year’s team, the goal was to keep that reputation. Senior captains Bobby Distler, Kevin McDonough and Matt Milano took this task seriously, leading the team to an FCIAC record of 11-1 and the State Championship game. “This season, it was really about getting all the guys to work together and unite in a common goal,” Kevin said.

For many, summer is a time to kick-back, relax, and soak up the rays. Ram athletes, however, realize that working hard over the summer and success on the field go hand in hand. While catching up with leaders from each season, the Courant asked these NCHS athletes what summer athletics mean to them, and how it will pay off in the 2011/2012 season. And while each athlete is unique with their own strengths, weaknesses, and routines; they all share one common goal–bringing home the next State championship.
