Every year during the first semester there is an art show. The premiere of this fall’s art show Momentum, Art in Motion took place on November 16. Each show has its different theme which the pieces of art will be based on, which students can submit their art, and jurors will decide if the piece will be displayed at the main entrance, outside the attendance office.

The art show takes a lot of work from students and faculty. “This year’s show is organized and designed by students, those being in the art club,” said art teacher Maggie Pennoyer.

The art club has a lot of involvement with the art show. Members of the club are the ones that decide the theme of the show, the roles of each member as well as jurying the submitted artwork.

Art club co-president Junior Naomi Salami reflected on the connection with the show. “The club’s and show’s involvement has stayed the same, with the only changes being that the shows have gotten bigger and have received more submissions.” This year there are three presidents, steering away from the two in prior years, and more members than ever before.

However, the club is hoping to expand even more in members.“Anyone can join the art club, even if you have little to no experience with art or if you are not taking an art elective. Everyone is welcome to join” said Naomi.

Students who are not members of the art club who were interested in submitting art submitted their art to Ms. Core, Ms Sinski, and Ms Pennoyer.

Senior Ben Skrelunas was one of the co-designers of the  poster. He had a specific idea in mind when brainstorming designs for the poster.“I wanted to encapsulate the dynamic theme of momentum art in motion through a striking black and gray palette,” Ben said. “The creation of the poster involves attention to detail in the selection of shades and gradients within the black and gray spectrum.”

This poster was showcased during the premiere and will continue to be in the gallerywhile the art is still displayed. After the art gallery is taken down, they will be hung and displayed in the art rooms, where all posters from prior years are. “The displays are taken down easily,” said Ms Pennoyer. “The art is returned to the artists, for them to do whatever they wish with their pieces, and preparation starts for the next one.”

Art at the high school has developed a lot in recent years. “Art has changed a lot in a digital sense. I would love to see more 3D work, like ceramics and sculpting in future shows,” Ms Pennoyer said. Each year’s art show has something to offer in demonstration of artistic abilities, collaboration with peers, and developing skills. Furthermore, the change in modern art makes each show feel unique in its own way.
