To all NCHS students and faculty:
We are very proud to announce that The New Canaan High School Student Coalition (StuCo) just completed the 20th annual Turkey Drive. A total of $1,830.00 was raised in support of the Lower Fairfield County Food Bank.
StuCo is currently preparing a couple of activities for the New Year. Our main focus and biggest initiative at the moment is to solve the issue of waste in the lounge. Most people are already aware of the mess students leave after each lunch block. Not only is it unfair to the custodial staff, it’s unfair to fellow students, forced to eat next to, around, or in someone else’s trash. For the past two meetings, we have been brainstorming different possibilities to help this issue. We hope that keeping the lounge clean is a school-wide New Years Resolution: Keep It Clean In 2013. Although many of the details are not definite, we have come up with fun activities to promote student responsibility regarding clean-up after eating. Be sure to keep an eye out for more information about this event in the coming weeks.
The senior class is also in the middle of organizing the first NCHS Parking Spot Raffle. The idea is any senior with a parking pass can purchase a raffle to ticket to win their own personal parking space for a part of the school year. The location of the space is yet to be decided, but it will most definitely be prime parking property in the parking lot. The senior class plans to have the winner use the spot for half a quarter, so between progress reports, and then have another raffle. In a full school year, there will be eight chances to win a parking spot. If you want to go off campus, or if you haven sleep in, a parking space will always be waiting for you, literally!
Juniors are in the process of starting prom preparations. After winter break, they will most likely be in full gear. If you’re a junior and you are interested to help, contact your Social Board President, Courtney Leopold, or your Class President, Henry Greer. In the spring, the junior class is thinking about holding an Olympic Games Day, a day to play with your friends and compete for prizes. Sounds fun!
Sophomores kicked off a canned food drive running through December 14th, and there is a drop off bin in Mr. Bedard’s room.
Freshmen are enjoying their first year in StuCo, and are contemplating a school service project for later this year.
