This year’s spirit week kicked off with a bang on Wednesday, October 21, as NCHS students descended on school dressed not in jeans and t-shirts, but in a variety of costumes more suited for Halloween. The much-awaited Clone Day had arrived.

For some of NCHS’s newcomers, it must have been quite a culture shock after the days of “black shirt and jeans” Clone Day at Saxe. But they had seen glimpses of the chaos from their old home down Farm Road. “I knew it was pretty crazy because last year we saw people walking from Saxe,” freshman Sara Greene said. “So it was kind of what I expected…basically people dressing up in crazy costumes.”

Animals seemed to be a common theme this year as some of the notable costumes were a giant snake (senior boys), close to 101 Dalmatians (sophomore girls), and chickens (junior girls). Also noteworthy were Dr. Seuss’s “Thing 1 + Thing 2,” drawn out to about Thing 25 by more sophomore girls, hot dogs (senior girls), and Quidditch players from all grades.

The only damper on the festivities was that some students took it a little too far. Last week, Mr. Pavia sent out a letter clearly outlining what was and wasn’t acceptable. Despite the administration’s efforts, some students still brought fake weapons, skateboards, masks, and other outlawed items and unfortunately, they had to be confiscated.

While students agreed that this year’s edition of Clone Day didn’t have any costumes that would be become parts of NCHS legend such as the infamous trees of 2007, at the same time, creativity and spirit were prevalent, setting a good standard for the rest of homecoming.
