Despite the close of the holiday season, the act of gift giving stays around great. A gift for yourself or for others one option worth considering, is a Virtual Reality headset. A VR headset allows you to move throughout a virtual space using nothing more than the power of technology. Whether that virtual space is in the depths of the ocean or on the International Space Station is up to you—you can be anywhere at any time, depending on the game you choose to play.
Different games will provide different journeys, however, the type of headset will determine the quality of the experience. “I have tried several, and I own the Index—it is phenomenal, but I think in terms of price and features the Oculus Quest 2 is the best bang for your buck,” said senior and VR enthusiast Charlie Lampen. The Oculus Quest 2 runs anywhere from $400 for the 128GB model to $500 for the 256GB model.
The oculus quest 2 has a multitude of capabilities that make the headset stand out. The sharp display and four front-facing cameras that allow you to see through the headset to view your actual surroundings. With the relatively low price tag compared to other headsets on the market, all you need to do is to charge the headset after use. There are currently over 200 games that are native to Oculus Quest 2, such as Ocean Rift and Submarine, these games allow you to interact with all sorts of marine life and traverse the ocean, and there is Mission ISS, where you can explore the International Space Station, with thousands more that are compatible. “VR has something for everyone—it allows people who might not be able to travel the ability to be free while still being at home.” Charlie said.
