At the start of the year it is easy to spot freshman; they are the ones asking for direction. It is a bit harder to distinguish sophomores from juniors, but it is by far easiest to spot a senior. Every year, the senior class creates innovative ways to bring spirit to the high school hallways. From hilariously imaginative school t-shirts, to cars covered extravagantly decorated with unique names and phrases, the senior class never fails to fill the school with fun.
The first week of school, the seniors brought spirit and excitement. “Drawing on the cars was a nice thing to do with the whole grade, where everyone was included,” senior Mae Campbell said. “It was a class-wide celebration of coming of age and being seniors.”
Being the oldest students at the school, seniors have the opportunity to demonstrate leadership and unity in a multitude of ways. Senior Cameron Wietfeldt is a player for varsity football, hockey, and lacrosse. “As a senior, I know that I am going to bring spirit to my teams, which will bring us together,” Cam said.
Senior Abby Richardson also participates in varsity field hockey and lacrosse at the high school. “I am looking forward to the football games, senior internships, and competing in both of the sports I play,” Abby said.
Like many seniors, Cameron has been in the New Canaan Public School district for his whole life. “I am actually sad to leave NCHS because I’ve been in this district since kindergarten, and I have so many awesome memories here,” Cam said. “It feels surreal that I am already a senior and going to be graduating soon.”
Abby has also been walking New Canaan’s halls since she was little. “Leaving school will definitely be sad because I have been in the New Canaan public school system ever since kindergarten at West School,” Abby said.
With college applications around the corner, seniors are focusing on their workload. “I hope all of this college stuff works out so there is not as much stress and the rest of senior year goes well,” Abby said.
Mae is also looking forward to the second part of the year. “The first part of this year has been rough with all the college applications, but beyond that I think it is going to be really exciting to be able to relax once I get the news about college,” Mae said.
As for this semester, the senior class is ready to bring on the spirit. “Spirit week all the seniors, including me, are going to go all out,” Mae said. “We are going to show up to the football games with cheering, spirit, and more.”
