On April 28, the annual Senior Art Show made its comeback following a two year hiatus. This year’s theme, appropriately titled “re-stART”, highlighted the excitement of returning to an in-person event and showcased the personal growth of each artist. The opening reception took place in the lobby from 5 to 7 PM and was open to the public.
In the show, artists portray their distinct viewpoints through prints, drawings, paintings, sculptures, and ceramics. While the inspiration behind each piece varied, all featured work is united by a common theme: post-pandemic revival.
Prior to the event, Art Teacher Kimanne Core used her expertise to guide students through the preparation process and ensure that the show ran smoothly. “I enjoy sharing my knowledge of fine arts, and encourage creativity through art-making for my students,” she said.
By selecting work for display, students explore the variety of media that has helped them discover their voice. “Art has always been a huge part of my life,” senior Estella Trygg said. “I view it as both a way to express myself and to pass time. Being able to think of something and put it on paper has always been so enjoyable, and the Senior Art Show provides me with an outlet to showcase my work.”
Senior Will Stallings, who has created a business through his art, saw the event as an opportunity to finally display work that he completed during the pandemic. “The Senior Art Show was a nice way to show people what we worked on over quarantine, and also what we explored during that time,” he said. “It’s great for artists to be able to show off what we do outside of our extracurricular activities.”
