On Mar. 19-23, the Post Prom Committee will be collecting gently used, clean, formal dresses in front of the main office from 7:30 am-2:15 pm to be donated to the Christian Community Action in Norwalk. However, New Canaan students in need of a prom dress will have first priority to the selection of dresses.

For the past four years, New Canaan parents have run the recycled prom dress project. “I think many people in New Canaan have an excess of ‘things’ and it is important to remember others less fortunate,” volunteer Julie Bossidy said. “I hope that the girls who will wear these dresses will feel good about themselves. I also would like the stress of buying a new dress to be alleviated for the girl and her family.”

According to senior Ali Rusch, this charitable act serves as a benefit to the local community. “Since there are limited occasions to wear the dresses, I think it’s a really great idea to donate them to people less fortunate so they are able to feel just as special as we did on prom night,” she said.

“Why not let someone else have a chance to wear it and have a special night as well,” senior Isabella Scandiffio agreed.
