The Debut Album- Life Left to Go

  • The Moment
  • “I need to let go of the things I see that have always let me fall/
And I cannot find my way home no because I’m already home.” Somehow this song is like a sarcastic slap in the face, hence why it’s my favorite. Instead of taking the normally bitter and sad route for a break up song SafetySuit uses their words to express emotions while playing guitar that makes Tim Brantley look emo.
  • Down
  • “Down, you can’t hold me down/ Cause when no one is around / I won’t be standing here/ Just waiting for you to come back home again.” Starts out a bit strange I’ll give you that, but I’ve been running around singing the chorus to myself for two weeks now. It’s the ultimate uplifting song in that respect but once again it’s a break up song… it’s pretty much a break up album. But it’s so deep you don’t notice until you’ve listened to it 6938784 times like me.

  • Something I Said
  • “I’m so confused, I must be losing it, this can’t be right/
I never knew that you could choose to love someone then change your mind.” Again SafetySuit uses beautiful lyrics to question the world around them and try to make sense of relationships. Mix in more of Dave Garafalo’s insane guitar skills you have another masterpiece of a song.
  • Annie
  • “It’s like I cannot get enough of you/
Annie you are the one song left in my symphony/
Like you were made for me.” A good chunk if the world knows this song because it’s the most recent single (it was released in 2009 after the 208 album release) and has gotten a solid amount of airtime. Annie is a really sweet song about a girl, of course, and the lyrics are enough to make people swoon.
  • Apology
  • “You say I can’t be honest with you/
You say I cant’ be honest, well what now.” The title is exactly what it is, an apology song. Gentlemen take note of this one, these guys have actually created the perfect way to apologize after messing up: writing a song.
  • Someone Like You
  • “If I had made my way if I had chosen to stay and be someone like you/would you have let me come to be with you?” This was the 2008 single that actually made it to the top three in 100 charts for a while.  It’s the first song in the album and a really well put together song to start out with, because it shows a lot of the musical elements the band uses.

  • Stay
  • “And I’ll be here in the morning if you say stay, if you say stay to me/

Something must have made you say that, what did I do to make you say that to me.” The second of the album’s three singles this also made the top three in 110 charts. Right now it’s actually getting more airtime than ever. I’ve heard it on the radio four times this week. A bit slower, but still a powerful song.
  • What If
  • “Cause you know that I’m always all for you/ What if it makes you lose faith in me?/ What if makes you question every moment you cannot see?” This song grew on me. At first I really avoided it but then after a few plays it’s still growing on me. It’s a bit like Apology because it is an apologizing song but at the same time the lyrics show doubt. SafetySuit may be the sweetest bunch of guys ever, these lyrics are adorable. Simple and sweet.
  • Find a Way
  • “Hold on, what’s the rush, what’s the rush we’re not done are we/
Cause I don’t need to change this atmosphere we’ve made if/
You can stay one more hour.” Possibly the only song that could pass as a love ballad on the album. Find a Way is one of the slower songs on the album and the best to fall asleep to because Doug Brown’s voice is so beautiful.
  • Anywhere But Here
  • “Is this a moment to remember/
Or just a cold day in December?/
I wonder/
If maybe/
Maybe I could be/ All you ever dreamed, cause you are.” Here’s a song that would be just as amazing acoustic. The guitar and vocals mesh together in what I think of as a harmonic convergence.  Don’t even get me started on these lyrics, they make me so excited for the next album.
  • Gone Away
  • “Gone away awhile/
Tell me all the things that I/
I’ll be missing here in this old life/
Man cause I just don’t know.”  The essence of thought and honesty is what composed this song. Starting out slow with soft guitar and piano while reminiscing before finishing out with powerful vocals that could shatter the soul with their intensity.

  • “And the pages you write/
In your journal each night/
Are your only release/
And the mask you put on/
It’s like words in a song/
But there’s more to be seen.” Here’s a quote from the SafetySuit bio from Doug Brown (singer/guitarist): “[Life Let Go is] named after our last song on the record, which is our least commercial song ever. It chronicles the thoughts of someone who wants to end their life. Then it presents the counter of that, the person begging them to stay. It’s a song to let people know that, no matter what, somebody notices them, that someone cares.” Enough said.
