Junior Cam Lyden of the boys varsity lacrosse team, earned an All-FCIAC honorable mention during the 2023 season, you don’t want to miss on the field this upcoming spring season. Cam has devoted remarkable amounts of time and energy into lacrosse creating the passion and determination that is necessary to accomplish as much as he has so far in his career. He spends his off seasons training at Eclipse Lacrosse Club, showing off his skills to nationwide collegiate teams to potentially have a continued future on the field after high school. His talent caught the eye of multiple Division I teams last year, but in the end he chose to continue his career at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2 years.
Standing at six feet tall and weighing 180 pounds, he’s a brick wall in the net. In order to continue to improve, he spends his offseason playing against other elite teams.“I would say my biggest accomplishment in lacrosse would be committing to the University of Michigan,” said Cam. “I feel it’s a good representation of my long journey filled with lots of hard work.”
Cam started his path to this level of competition early on. Although he is mainly recognized for his skill in lacrosse, his athletic career began on the ice. Even though he started playing hockey early on, he has still demonstrated an impressive level of balance between the two sports and academics, “For hockey I started when I was about two years old,” he said. “My dad was a hockey player too so he always had me on the ice. I became used to having a busy schedule and playing multiple sports since I was a kid” he said.
Cam is now focused on making it to as many championships for the boys lacrosse team before the end of his highschool career. As the team strives to achieve high expectations for themselves, having a determined goalie will be essential in keeping up the positive mindset for this upcoming season. “For lacrosse, my goal is to win an FCIAC and state championship,” he said.
While a part of the boys varsity hockey team, Cam defeated Ridgefield in an intense overtime game leading to a win in the FCIAC championship his sophomore year. He said it was one of the most exciting and lasting moments in his athletic career. “It was a very thrilling game and was awesome to see our team come through with the win,” he said. “It was really my first high school championship, so it was particularly memorable.”
He also maintains his academic focus regardless of his busy schedule. His determination and consistency are clear in his actions and techniques for how he approaches his responsibilities. “I use my time very wisely, constantly in the library during my free time and completing my work,” he said. “ I also use days where we don’t have practice or games to get ahead on assignments that are due in the future.”
Cam’s commitment to academics and athletics make him a standout to watch both on and off the field as he gets ready for his junior year lacrosse season, senior year and his future at the University of Michigan.
