Last weekend, the Rams traveled to New Britain to face off against the Windsor Warriors for the Class L state championship. Windsor had been undefeated before this game, and went in with high hopes. This is the Rams’ fourth straight state title and head coach Lou Marinelli’s 12th state title in 36 years.
Starting off on defense, the Rams held the Warriors at bay, forcing them to go three and out on the opening drive.
Teddy Hood scored first for the Rams, running two yards into the end zone to put New Canaan up 7-0.
Towards the end of the first quarter, the Rams had a fumble recovery, putting them on Windsor’s 8 yard line. On the drive, freshman quarterback Drew Pyne threw to senior Graham Braden for the touchdown, extending the Rams’
lead to 14-0.
Going into the second quarter, Windsor rallied back with senior quarterback Jahkari Grant and senior running back Tim Gardner scoring touchdowns This tied the score 14-14 in the first half.
Towards the end of the first half, Pyne threw a 26 yard pass to senior Ryan O’Connell, allowing the Rams to enter halftime with the a 21-14 lead.
Starting off the second half, junior Grant Morse made a 31 yard field goal, followed by a 21 yard field goal, putting the Rams in a lead of 27-14.
Beginning the fourth quarter, senior Ryan O’Connell had a 11 yard run, giving the Rams another touchdown. The Rams went for a successful two point conversion, putting the score at 35-14.
At the very end of the fourth quarter, Windsor’s Gardner had an 8 yard touchdown run, putting the score at 35-20. Despite the efforts of Windsor, New Canaan was able to win the game with a 15 point lead.
