New Canaan 45, Norwalk 0

In an FCIAC matchup between 5-0 New Canaan and 0-5 Norwalk, New Canaan handled business on homecoming weekend. As starting quarterback Alex Russey said, “The amped-up crowd brought lots of energy to the team, as they were excited to fight for their town.”

The game may have been over before it started, in what looked like a promising kick return turned into an early turnover. New Canaan kicker, Ty Groff, stripped the football from the Norwalk player, turning a Norwalk touchdown into great field position for the New Canaan offense. “After the early fumble, we felt like we could do this; if we just did our jobs, we could get the win,” Alex said. New Canaan would go on to score 14 points in the first quarter, behind a pair of runs by Alex Russey and Luke Reed. After an interception by Senior Walker Blair, the score at the end of the 1st quarter was 14-0. New Canaan would continue to pour it on, ending the first half 31-0, before coasting to a final of 45-0.

Looking forward, New Canaan looks to continue their winning streak against 5-1 Wilton in a game that has been circled on New Canaan’s calendar following a brutal 20-17 loss last year. “I know Wilton was a really tough loss last year, and we need to be extra focused and bring lots of energy to get the job done,” Alex said.
