The annual dodgeball tournament hosted by Pura Vida was held in the Main Gym this past Sunday, Jan. 9, from 5-8 p.m. According to team leader senior Catherine Betack, each ticket cost $19 which pays for 19 cent meals, feeding 100 children per ticket.

Catherine estimated that this event raised around $1,600 with 12 teams of six to eight people on each. The only requirement was that there be an equal number of boys and girls on a team; there was no age limit requirement. Many alumni came back to support the cause.

Like most Pura Vida events, the money is going towards the organization Feed My Starving Children.”The money is going towards the $38,000 for the Feed My Starving Children packaging event at the end of the year. This year we want to double what we did last year and package 200,000 meals. Last year we packaged over 100,000 meals to go to Haiti,” Catherine said. “The goal of this tournament is to not only raise funds towards our final goal of $38,000 but also to attract all high schoolers to play. The most successful tournament is when everyone gets involved from freshman to seniors and even college kids. It really shows everyone banding together.”

The winning team was Team Myles, which consisted of 2010 graduates Michael Freyre, Ian Knechtle, Kacey Pippitt, Patrick Ryan, juniors Devon Calhoun, Kristine Ryan, and freshman Myles Henderson.

Besides the actual dodgeball tournament, there was another competition to see which team had the best uniform. The winning team was Team Fairy Dust, which consisted of  juniors Ryan Christie, Jenny Crandall, Parker Dennis, Alyssa Domino, Caitlin Dwyer, and Doug Reilly.
