On Oct. 18-21, students celebrated homecoming week by dressing up in crazy costumes for each spirit day, which led up to the much anticipated pep rally at 1:15 p.m. in the gym at the end of the week. While students were in the stands decked in red and black, the pep rally’s MCs, Seniors Bobby Distler and Sarah Mannelly, were getting everybody ready for the homecoming game against St. Joeseph High School on the 22.

Both Bobby and Sarah are captains of their respective fall sports teams, a requirement to be a MC.“You have to be a captain of a fall sport [to be an MC], most people suggested I be one and I accepted, I thought it would be fun,” Sarah Mannelly said.

According to Bobby, who had similar sentiments, he got involved in hosting the event because he thought it would be pleasurable to lead the students, instead of being just an onlooker. “I was interested [in becoming an MC]because it has always seemed like it would be a really cool experience and I felt that I’d have fun doing it,” Bobby said.

In anticipation of this event, a lot of preparation was made beforehand. “Most of the planning was with the cheerleaders, but there was a lot of structure to it,” Bobby said.

“The Cheerleaders play a huge role behind the scenes for the pep rally. All people really see is our routine, but we do a lot more than that,” senior cheerleading tri-captain Caitlin Dwyer said. “We make the order of the acts, burn CDs of their music and help decide if there is anything new we want to add to the program.” She also said they attended numerous meetings to make sure the pep rally ran smoothly and introduced the MCs.

Caitlin said that she hoped that the pep rally brought a sense of camaraderie to the students. “Other than just having fun and cheering on your friends, the pep rally is meant to bring the school together,” she said.

In order to keep the pep rally engaging and upbeat, Bobby said he tried to keep all grades drawn in. “[We made] sure it was exciting so everyone would want to be involved,” he said.

Attempting to make this event memorable, Bobby and Sarah planned on outdoing all previous years’ pep rallies. “We brainstormed an epic entrance, plan on being hyped up the whole time,” Sarah said. “[We tried] forcing the energy out of each student.

Freshman Eli Litchman said the MCs were successful in keeping the students informed.“It made it a lot more fun and entertaining, and I actually knew what was going on and what was coming up throughout the pep rally.”
