Every year, senior artists come together to produce one last show to leave their mark on the high school. Sixteen senior artists have come together this year to produce pARTicles, a nine week show to celebrate the accomplishments that these students have achieved throughout their high school career.

“The show is a celebration of four years, in most cases, worth of really hard work by student artists.” Art teacher Ms. Pennoyer said. “ It takes a lot of hours, a lot of work, and a lot of grit and perseverance to be a student artist, and the senior art show is very special because it’s a celebration of all of that.”

The show will begin on April 27th, and it will kick off with a reception from five to seven in the high school lobby. “During the reception, the members of the Fritz Eager Foundation come and they look at all the work and select three pieces to become a part of the permanent collection here at the high school.” Ms. Pennoyer said.

The theme for this year will be pARTicles. “To me it’s how we’re all tiny particles in our school, by ourselves we mean nothing, but we can come together and form a loving and caring community and make the world a better place; just how multiple particles make up our friends, phones, brains, and everything else!” said senior art student Luka Pereira.

Make sure to stop by the show, and check out the work these students have made. “I encourage people to come and see the show and come to the reception if you can,” Ms. Pennoyer said. “If you know any of the artists or you happen to see them, ask them about their work, ask them about their journey, and ask them about their plans moving forward.”

Senior Avery Morawa has been creating art since she could hold a pencil. “For me, art is a form of self expression and communication. My art is an extension of myself and of my mind,”  she said.

Throughout high school, Avery has continued creating art and taking art classes at the high school. “In the past few years, I’ve truly been able to find my own artistic voice. I came into high school making art based on observation: things I can directly see or things that definitely exist. But as I have developed as an artist, I’ve learned to take more creative liberty,” Avery said. “I create unique and original art that reflects my internal landscape or art that communicates something about the relationships that I see around me.”

Avery often demonstrates her interest in science within her art, this scientific approach to art aligns with the theme of the show, pARTicles. “The theme of the senior art show this year is extremely meaningful to me because it aligns with my personal style and reinforces the ideas that I try to develop with my art,” Avery said. “As a scientist and an artist, I use art to depict scientific properties and display unseen human qualities in a unique manner. The theme, pARTicles, suggests a relationship between the hard sciences and expressive arts and I think that that idea pertains to my work.”

Avery is planning on studying art in college and will continue to focus on this scientific approach to her art. “I am going to study biology and medicine, and classes like human anatomy will allow me to develop my skills in creating related art and further uniting the parallels between science and art.”
