For some students, thinking about applying to college provides a sinking feeling in their gut. But besides the forms and interviews, students wishing to attend an art school have a whole different nerve-wracking experience. With thousands applying to major art schools each year, and only a few hundred getting in, the portfolio is the deciding factor.

Hate:
1. Brushing your teeth and dribbling toothpaste down the front of your shirt.

To break the social barriers in the lounge, the Student Advocates hosted NCHS’ first Freaky Friday during an extended lunch block on Friday the 13th. The Student Coalition, Student Advocates and Emerging Leaders banded together to unify the grades with seating, music and ice cream in what could become a tradition.

Last Night, Thursday, Apr. 26 student poets, teachers and parents came together for an evening of original poetry readings. The four winners were junior Annie Conover for best poem “Letters Home from Baghdad”, sophomore Tyler Kendall for best imagery in “Grandfather”, senior Jenny Curt for best performance, and senior Olivia Marcus for most artful use of language in an untitled poem.

After coaching at NCHS for 21 years, Gail Overbeck recently gave news of her retirement from the position of head coach for the girls’ varsity tennis team. Ms. Overbeck originally started coaching at the high school in 1991.
