‘Rango’ delivers a solid Western geared towards an older audience

I’m a sucker for Westerns. Be it a Sergio Leone spaghetti Western (The Good, The Bad and The Ugly) or a Joss Weadon space Western (Serenity), I have probably seen it multiple times. Going in to Rango, I was afraid that the film would turn my beloved genre into a hackneyed kids movie, making a mockery of everything Leone and Eastwood built to make the western what it is today. I was happily proven wrong.

Soccer captain commits to Georgetown University

Rory Shepard, a senior All-FCIAC player, verbally committed to Georgetown University’s mens soccer program.

Although Rory has won various individual awards, he stressed that his team’s success is much more important than personal achievements. “I’ve won a few individual awards, but not many,” he said. “I’m a defender, so there’s not too much flash when it comes to playing. It’s more grinding and tackling. On the other hand, I have been on a lot of teams that have won tournaments, leagues and championships, and I’ve learned that your team’s success is really what counts.”

Iron Man 2

Walking out of Iron Man 2, I realized I got exactly what I had expected going in. That’s not to say that my expectations were poor, they were just simple. Iron Man 2, like many big name sequels, such as James Bond’s Quantum of Solace, went the way of bigger action and explosion at the expense of storytelling and acting. However, this generalization was thankfully not entirely true. Though some of the plethora of supporting performances were weak and the story was far more decentralized and unfocused than the first, Robert Downey Jr. once again captured Tony Stark to the letter, while director Jon Favreau brought the film’s level of action up to a more entertaining if somewhat ridiculous level.

Kick-Ass delivers exactly what it promises and more

Charlie Dorf

As far as comic book movies go, they are generally a mixed bunch, ranging from cinematic greatness (The Dark Night), to missed opportunities (Watchman), to absolute garbage (Spiderman 3, The Ghost Rider). Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass, in this reviewer’s humble opinion, the best comic book movie ever made. With crass yet witty dialogue, great performances across the board, stylized and seamless cinematography, and some of the most brutal (and awesome) action of I ever seen, this movie kicks a whole lot of ass…

Internet surveillance

In this day and age, there is no denying that social networking sites play an increasingly important role in students’ lives, whether they’re used to communicate about school and sports, publicize events, or catch up with friends. Because websites like Facebook and Twitter allow students to share information with such facility, people often have a tendency to post every uncut detail of their lives on the Internet.

While some may think nothing of posting such information, they might do well to remember that once something is on the Internet, it’s there for anyone to see. Schools, police and even government agencies have the ability to simply log into these websites to access a plethora of information about students’ activities…
