On May 23, NCHS celebrated the induction of 134 students into the National Honor Society (NHS). NHS Advisor Ms. Thompson explained that students must have a GPA of 92 or higher and demonstrate the four pillars of NHS: scholarship, leadership, service and character.

“This ceremony is a way to recognize students who’ve gone above and beyond,” said Ms. Thompson. “It’s about more than grades – it’s about giving back.”

This past year stood out with a special moment: for the first time, sixth graders from Classical Magnet School in Bridgeport visited NCHS. They spent the day in the planetarium, made birdhouses, and connected with NHS members, marking a new direction for future outreach.

NHS students are required to complete service hours to maintain their membership and graduate with honors. Along with volunteer trips to Bridgeport, students also participate in fundraising and local service work throughout the year.

“It’s an opportunity to shine,” Ms. Thompson said. “At the end of the day, you want to say, ‘I made a difference.’”
