Yesterday, Sophomore striker Clare Greisen’s two goals helped Girls Soccer defeat FCIAC Rival Darien 3-1. The win improves the girls’ record to 6-2 and moves the team into 4th in the FCIAC.
The first half of the game was both a physical and defensive battle, as Senior Captain and goalie Chrysi Gabriel made several key saves to keep the game tied 0-0 after 40 minutes of action.
Clare scored the opening goal for the Rams six minutes into the second half, assisted by a free kick from Senior Captain Paige Place. Clare scored her second goal 22 minutes later, assisted by Senior Captain Ceci Patterson.
Paige cited Clare’s speed and knowledge of the game as some of her best qualities. “She’s always in the right spot and is a great target to hit when transitioning from defense to offense,” she said.
Then, with five minutes remaining in the game, Senior Captain Sydney Patten scored a free kick goal from 25 yards out to put the Rams up 3-0. Darien responded quickly with a late goal, however the Rams came out on top.
“It always feels amazing to beat your rival,” Paige said about the game. “We beat [Darien] in my freshman year, so it’s a full circle moment to beat them again in my senior year.”
Next, the Rams turn their attention to Brien McMahon, who they will host tomorrow night, as their postseason push continues.
