For NCHS football fans, Sunday Dec. 2 was the last time they’d be rooting on the Rams during the 2012 season. In the CIAC semi-finals, New Canaan lost to Windsor 27-21. Regardless of the loss, the Rams ended their season with a record of 9-3. For the fans who don’t want to wait until next year, here’s a look back at an important moment of the season.

On Nov. 22, the Rams were defeated by the Darien Blue Wave in the Turkey Bowl. With a score of 36-23, the New Canaan team left the stadium in disappointment.

The game was flooded with New Canaan fans as students, parents, faculty, and alumni crowded the stadium to watch the most competitive game of the season. “The [NCHS] fans have a lot of spirit,” sophomore Tess Mackenzie said. “Because of that, the game was really fun to watch.”

While people were piling into the stands, the football team was preparing for what they thought would be another win for the season. Unfortunately, the team fell short of their expectations. “We didn’t play like ourselves,” senior captain Grady Lynch said. “In the past we have always been able to execute both offensively and defensively when we had to, but against Darien for whatever reason we really struggled on third and fourth down.”

The Blue Wave won the Turkey Bowl Trophy for the first time since 2001, breaking the Ram’s eight year streak. Although the loss, the Rams still have a 9-2 record, over the Blue Wave’s 7-3 record.
