The end of the school year is an exciting time for many. For freshmen, it means no longer being the youngest in the school, for sophomores, it means gearing up for junior year, and for rising seniors, it means getting ready for their last year of high school. For seniors, it means closing a chapter of their lives and embarking on a new journey, and for many, it means filling the shoes of the departing class, whether that be through sports, clubs, or leadership positions. Student run classes, such as TV Broadcasting, are preparing to make the transition of leadership from departing seniors to younger students.
TV Broadcasting, also known as NCTV, is responsible for the Friday announcements, sports game coverage, theater shows, and more events that happen within the school. With key leaders leaving the class, most notably station manager Emily Fox, NCTV has big shoes that need to be filled.
Losing mentors is always a hard adjustment; however, next year’s staff have already started to prepare for next year. “I think this year they’ve worked really hard, and they’ve kept in mind that they’re going to lose a lot of experience with Emily leaving the class,” TV broadcasting, graphics, and journalism teacher Roman Cebulski said. “My juniors especially have been stepping up and doing a great job,” he said.
Returning staff have started to prepare for next year by involving themselves more in events. “The main thing is being more involved with not only with the Friday morning announcement broadcast, but with the events as well,” Mr. Cebulski said.
Another key aspect for next year’s leaders in preparing for the responsibilities is collaboration. “I have also been working a lot with others and their positions in NCTV, and as station manager, I want to make the class fun and a good environment as well as give my peers a sense of my ideas and goals so we can work together and make it happen,” junior and station manager Sydney Sibillia said. “Working with others and their goals is helping me prepare for next year’s class environment and include everyone’s thoughts and ideas. I’m super excited for next year and can’t wait to see my ideas come to life for something I’m so passionate about,” Sydney said.
Along with junior Anav Sahay, Sydney has already started to plan for next year to make the transition as smooth as possible. “I’m jumping into the planning process earlier so that I will have ideas in mind for the beginning of next year and start working with Mr. Cebulski to get these ideas going,” Sydney said.
Sydney and Anav are both experienced members of the NCTV crew, preparing them for their new responsibilities. “I’m looking forward to them being the leaders. I think, like anything, they’re in those roles because they’re good candidates to be good leaders,” Mr. Cebulski said.
Aside from the new staff, another difference is that next year’s class is expected to double this year’s size. “I’m excited because I think there will be a lot of hard workers, as well as people who want the class to succeed who will come forward with their amazing ideas, which will only make the class so much better,” Sydney said. “The more people we have coming in, the better our news, sports, and entertainment groups will be for the broadcast”.
There has been a lot of growth and change within NCTV this year, which will set them up for future success. “We had a lot of inexperienced students who worked really hard this year, especially the sophomore class. There are a lot of really amazing, talented people who have been anchors, and they’re already in producer roles,” Mr. Cebulski said. “It’s been a really good rebuilding year for us, and with the core of these kids coming back, I think along with new kids, we’re setting ourselves up to have a really successful year.”
