In an effort to keep viewers engaged during weeks when the broadcast is not airing, senior Gray Tamasco and fellow NCTV members, Danielle O’Malley, John Frieders, and Will Langford, have started a new segment titled Rams Club. Rams Club, which is published on the NCTV YouTube channel provides updates on NCHS athletics, showcasing a creative outlet for students and offering a unique perspective.
NCTV teacher and advisor Roman Cebulski noticed students’ interests in reaching beyond the typical morning announcements. “I think it’s an important step into what TV students want to do. They’re looking for ways to do more than the news show,” said Mr. Cebulski. “We do a lot of sports broadcasting, live games, but some want to create more original shows and content.”
The club aims to recognize athletes outside of scheduled games and match results. “I want to highlight the athletes that put in the work day in and day out to perform well,” junior NCTV member Danielle O’Malley said. “They deserve more recognition for the work they put into their sports because it truly is impressive some of the work they have accomplished.”
Junior NCTV anchor John Frieders provided insight on what the program does. “The Rams Club is three or four students, who come together to take a deeper look into sports past the scores and records of teams,” he said. “Rams Club is more about leadership dynamics and stories inside of the game.”
Compared to the structured bi-monthly broadcast, Rams Club gives students a more flexible approach to TV. “I like how we can freely speak rather than reading a teleprompter that is scripted out for us. On the broadcast, we read a script created for us,” said Danielle. “The Rams Club is loosely planned with bullet notes, and we go off of that. It is more fun because if you think of something on the spot, you can say it.”
Mr. Cebulski recognizes his students for their commitment and organization. “I have been very impressed with how they put the show together, remain committed to doing multiple episodes and meet the deadlines that they set for themselves,” said Mr. Cebulski. “I think it has been really neat and it’s enjoyable to see them plan, brainstorm, and then create and produce that show.”
Comparing Rams Club to the previous sports podcast, “Beyond the Whistle,” Danielle emphasized the program’s exclusive focus on high school sports, differentiating it from coverage of only professional sports. “Beyond the Whistle spoke more on professional sports events happening on a larger scale. The Rams Club solely focuses on high school sports and highlighting our school athletes,” she said.
John encouraged students to tune in and acknowledged that while Rams Club is in its first year, continuous efforts to improve will lead to a better show. “This is our first year with the show, but we’re constantly trying to improve it. And as time goes on, it’s going to get much better,” said John.
