On Sunday, May 17, the Mikey Czech Foundation held the Miles for Mikey 5k walk/run through New Canaan, starting at NCHS.
The Mikey Czech Foundation was established by the Czech family following the September, 2008 death of their 11-year-old son, Mikey, from a pediatric brain tumor. Since then, the foundation has been instrumental in raising funds for and awareness of pediatric brain cancer.
“The money raised [by the foundation]will go toward building a new, world-leading pediatric neuro-oncology translational research laboratory in an effort to eliminate pediatric brain tumors,” Jennifer Czech, Mikey’s mother and co-founder of the Foundation, said. “We also approve grants to support pediatric brain tumor research at healthcare, education and medical research facilities throughout the US.”
This is the second annual 5k run/walk organized by the foundation, and Ms. Czech had high hopes for it. “I would love this year’s event to surpass last year’s event in funds raise and awareness raised in the need for pediatric brain tumor research,” she said.
