But what do we know? How do you know that we know what we’re talking about? Here are some of our “qualifications.”
Keaton: I am what you would call a year-round trackie. I run cross-country and indoor and outdoor track; which means that I run more in a day than you have in all of 2012. That’s a false exaggeration obviously, but still, I do a lot of running. So, you can trust my fitness knowledge. In addition, my diet consists of only Whole Foods merchandise. That is not a false exaggeration. If you’re ever at my house, I would advise you to bring your own snacks as most of the items in my pantry lack any semblance of flavor. Also, my dear mother and sister are dairy free, while my dad is gluten free. So, in essence, I am also dairy free and gluten free (at least when it comes to family dinners). I don’t know if you can find a food plan more bland (I mean healthier) than that.
Elliott: While Keaton prefers to inhabit the land, I like to spend my time on the water, as a member of NCHS’ rowing team. No, I am not a “crewer” or a “crewbie”, so please refrain from using those terms. My hours spent picking things up and putting them down has helped to improve my physical fitness, visible testament to my knowledge on the subject of fitness. Because I am also a “lightweight”, I know what it takes to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. My favorite foods are lettuce, apples, soup and quinoa, which are all fantastic foods to fill you up without weighing you down. Keep an eye out for my analysis of popular restaurants and how to maximize on their healthy options!
Tip of the Week: When you’re feeling stressed and completely overwhelmed amidst all the test taking and studying, try to avoid stress eating. (But don’t not eat when you’re stressed either.) I know when I’m stressed and bored, I like to take a break with a little snack, but then I end up eating way too much. Snack in moderation, and eat the healthy stuff so your body doesn’t shut down and feel sluggish. Try something delicious and filling, such as an apple with peanut butter. According to Giovanni from driving school (those of you who have gone through driving school might remember the “napping in your car” conversation), apples are actually filled with protein and they combat exhaustion really well. Add peanut butter on top and you’re more alert than if you drank a 5-hour energy drink (not sure if this is true but I know its most likely healthier). Also, another way to combat the stress is to DROP DOWN AND GIVE ME 20! But actually, doing a set of pushups or situps, or any physical activity will get you focused and ready to face any obstacle second semester may bring.
