“All you have to do is apply,” said Sofia Roth, a new employee at Zumbach’s Coffee. “I went into Zumbach’s and I asked for an application, and then I introduced myself to the boss,” Sofia said. She also said that the same process applies for most stores around town. Oxygen Fitness, the YMCA, and Pennyweights require a simple process to get your application and put yourself out there.

Sofia also shared her number one tip for when you’re meeting your potential employer, “Always be polite, you can never be too polite, but be yourself and be outgoing,” she said. “Don’t hesitate to talk to people and ask for applications.”

Sarah Crawford at Oxygen Fitness went through a similar application process. “I called the front desk and asked if they were hiring and they asked for my name and email,” Sarah said. “Shortly after I had an interview with the manager.”

Caitlin Bradley and Morgan Porter, while working at the New Canaan Toy Store, agreed. “Stores in town have the most job openings,” Morgan said. Caitlin had a similar way of getting her job, “I came into the store and asked if they were hiring and I filled out my information in an application,” she said. She shared her tip, “I think if you have a resume you should bring that, and don’t look at just one place,” Caitlin said. Morgan says her number one tip is to, “be really bubbly, nice, and outgoing.”

Sarah finds it convenient how much free time her summer job gives her. “I have a lot of free time to hang out with friends and enjoy the weather,” she said. Her most important piece of advice is to, “choose something you like because you don’t want to ruin your summer,” she said. “But don’t worry because there are plenty of things you can do and many places that are always hiring.”
