Over 1300 years ago, a high-ranking Chinese monk by the name of Ganjin was sent an ancient poem by the grandson of the Japanese emperor.
“Even though we live in different places, we live under the same sky.” The importance of this poem is timeless, as then it encouraged Ganjin to bring Buddhism to Japan, and today it marks the beginning of repairs between Japan and China. The Japan Youth Development Association sent boxes of face masks and thermometers to China to help them in this time of crisis.
Other ancient poems were sent along with more resources. “Though separated by a mountain, we’ll share the same clouds and rain; A bright moon belongs not to a single town.”
