Each year, the Persian New Year Nowruz is a huge celebration with parties and familial gatherings that share dinner and dances. But, this year proposes a challenge as people are forced to celebrate within quarantine.
An Iranian community in Minnesota adapted in the best way possible. The two largest parties of the year in Minnesota, hosted by the Persian Student Organization of Minnesota and Atlas Grill, were cancelled for obvious health reasons, meaning that Persian students no longer have the chance to connect with other Iranians in the community.
On March 19, in place of multiple households joining together, families Skype or facetime at home while they set their ‘Haft-Sin tables.’ These tables feature natural ingredients to commemorate the start of spring such as apples, vinegar, Persian olives and lentil sprouts.
