On Friday, January 15th, Weston defeated the gymnastics team 100.65-85.3. This match was especially important to the team because last year, it was their most successful game and first win in three years.
“Weston is the same level as our team — we have the opportunity to beat them,” head coach Anne Tomaselli said. “It would be nice—our first win of the season.” Unfortunately for the team, this was not the case.
The problem fell mainly on the team’s beam abilities. “We just really have to make sure we hit all of our connections on the balance beam and not fall off,” said Coach Tomaselli. “The beam is a big one. When we can sick it and make connections, it’s a good day.”
Senior captain Krista Carmel agrees. “It was one of the worst meets when we fell a lot, but we have to keep trying,” she said.
Another obstacle for the team is the number of injuries they’ve had this season. “We’ve got four girls who are injured, and one of our captains had her tonsils taken out,” Coach Tomaselli said.
Krista remains hopeful. “I’m really excited about our upcoming meets because a lot of our gymnasts who are hurt are coming back,” she said.
“We’re really excited to be together as a team again to try to win, “ Krista said. “This year our scores have been really close to Westhill, and one of our goals is to beat them.”
