GUYS WINTER FASHION FINAL

It is time to say goodbye to the autumn leaves and prepare for a winter of snow and holiday cheer. After a successful fall season, the time has come to go up into the attic and come down with stored boxes of clothing fit for the colder weather.  This winter gives NCHS boys the opportunity to start the second semester with success and in style. With that being said, there are 10 items that everyone should have in their closet this winter.

The navy pea coat: Pea coats are usually made with toasty wool, which is best for winter’s summiting temperatures. The fit of outerwear is something to think about this time of year with the addition of multiple layers. The fit of a double breasted pea coat is much more interesting and visually pleasing that your usual Elon “hoodie”. JCrew.com has a bunch of different pea coats in a variety of darker colors.

Ugg Slippers: Ugg footwear is no longer just reserved for girls! These slippers, lined with sheepskin and cotton, are the greatest and most comfortable addition to your closet, and are the perfect day to day school shoe. Don’t let their UGGly reputation fool you, these shoes look great, feel even better, and are being sold at a discounted price on zappos.com

Duck boots: History seems to be repeating itself with a comeback of the century-old hunting boot. Yes, it is true, duck boots are in! L. L. Bean’s distinguished duck boot with a leather base and rubber bottoms are a fashion statement on their own, and can only be worn through the slush and mud of the winter.  Order now from L. L. Bean and invest in a simple, yet rugged shoe that has changed dramatically into a symbol of style.

Flannel: It’s called Flannel Friday for a reason, everyone. All you really need is one flannel to get through the winter and you’re set! As the epitome of the New Canaan boy wardrobe, a flannel is comfortable, casual, while fashionable all the same.

Patagonia vest: Wear it with an oxford, wear it with a t-shirt, it doesn’t matter what is underneath, just be sure to have it on! Patagonia vests are the most versatile piece of clothing that will be in your winter collection this year. As a piece that can be worn as formally or as casually was you want it to be, fleece vests made by Patagonia are comparable to getting a hug from a polar bear. Investing in a quality vest is making a venture into personal success, style wise that is. Be sure to check them out at Patagonia.com or VineyardVines.com

Green pants: A fresh and remarkable update to your winter ensamble, green straight pants bring out a brighter and more colorful side to an outfit. Pair these green pants with a shaded tone like a white button down or gray polo and you’ll be good to go! These oh so stylish pants are sold at almost any store but only during the most wonderful time of the year…I’m expecting to see your receipts first thing tomorrow.

North Face jacket: Okay, I get it. Maybe everyone can’t dress up like a Ken doll 24/7…but there are solutions to that. Rather than slumping around in a Nike track suit on those casual sleep in kind of days, throw on a North Face pullover and make your day a good one. Try Bob Sports or northface.com to look around.

Rugbys: For those days when it’s 20 degrees and snowing, a rugby is a great shirt to pull. Show a bit of your athletic side without the smell and rips of a football jersey, all while maintaining the fashionable image you’ve worked so hard on. Warmth and function are big with this shirt. Your best bet is the NC Rugby or Jack Wills on Elm Street.

Elbow-padded sweaters: Nothing draws the eye like a classic, colorful sweater, but this season let’s take it even farther. On a quarter zip or v-neck, keep your sights set on the latest elbow padded cashmeres. These pieces represent the spirit of the season and can match well the neutral colors of winter.

Patagonia fleece: I can easily say with confidence that my Patagonia fleece is the most comfortable item of clothing that I have ever purchased. You have two options here. Ask your parents for it for Christmas and if that doesn’t work out, use the money grandma gave you for “books” to invest in this lifetime of comfort. Darien Sport Shop goes wild with their after-Christmas sales, so the timing is perfect! Rock this fashionable yet unexplainably comfortable fleece from January 1st to the beginning of Spring, and even then you’ll probably leave it on.
