The beginning of the school year embraces constant novelty. In a transition to new classes, new teachers, and new activities, back-to-school shopping for new clothes is somewhat inevitable. This fall is a chance for all NCHS boys to succeed academically, an accomplishment that starts by dressing for success. With that being said, there are 10 items that everyone should have in their closet this fall.
- The Barbour jacket: Once worn as part of a duck-hunting ensemble, this hunter green coat is the perfect jacket for fall, but fortunately can be worn all the way through spring. It is a mixture of casual and tasteful and is the essential item for an ideal autumn wardrobe.
- Sperry top sider: The goal is to be dressed well from head to toe, meaning an acceptable pair of shoes can’t be looked over. Tan or brown Sperrys are fundamentally the every day shoe that can be worn with both shorts and pants, all three seasons of the school year. The best outfit can be ruined with a less-than-flattering pair of shoes, so stop by the mall for beige topsiders and prevent your shortcoming.
- The orange sweater: Every boy should try to stick out this year, and nothing draws the eye like a classic orange sweater. From quarter zips to v-necks, this piece represents the spirit of the season and can match well with all autumn colors. An orange sweater is the epitome of fall clad with an added comfort factor as a bonus.
- Brown corduroys: Straight-fit auburn cords. These simple, snug trousers are sold at almost every department or retail store nearby, and are imperative for your back to school wardrobe. Their light material is the perfect halfway point of summer and winter and doesn’t produce the sweltering heat that heavy jeans do. They look great and feel sublime—what more could you ask for?
- Pocketed long sleeve t-shirts: Long sleeve T’s with a pocket on the chest are your fall go to for those mornings when you roll out of bed at 7:15 and are dressing on the go. They are light, simple, and the item to chose for those easy days of relaxation. Look for the greys or blues, you want to avoid the brighter colors in this purchase.
- Hoodless vintage sweatshirts: As a school, we pride ourself in our exceptional college placement and consequently, walk down the hallways in our favorite university’s hoodie. This year, you can still support your favorite school and get the comfort of a hooded jacket while looking superb at the same time. Vintage sweatshirts are our chance to immerse in the comfort of a hoodie without looking shabby as a result.
- Grey Converse: Sperrys can only be worn to so many events and though they make a great formal shoe, a grey converse sneaker makes an idyllic substitute on the outings that are more active and messy. You can’t go wrong wearing jeans and converse together.
- Flannel: One flannel. All you need is one flannel to get through autumn. The most comfortable piece of clothing on this list, a flannel is a New Canaan trademark and has been worn for years. With hundreds of patterns and colors to choose from, buying this shirt should be a main priority for all students out there. Once you undergo the flannel experience, you’ll never want to wear polos again.
- Blue vest: I know the thought of wearing a vest to school sounds ridiculous, but hear me out. A blue Patagonia or Vineyard Vines vest will become your new best friend when you wear it with t-shirts, long sleeves, polos, oxfords, or over a sweater. Yes, it is that flexible. Investing in a quality vest is making a venture into personal success, style wise that is.
- Pastel shorts: If you can make a rainbow out of your multiple pastel colored shorts, you know you’ve done your job well. This season is just beginning so there is still ample time to successfully wear straight-iron shorts in the color of your choice. I am in no way encouraging guys to dress like Easter eggs daily, but a bright pair of pastel shorts with a white shirt would only make this school a brighter and sunnier place.
