On Friday November 11, the girls varsity soccer team fought to keep their 8-game win streak alive against St. Joe’s at Dunning field.

The Rams expected a hard-fought battle, as St. Joe’s came into the game with a perfect record. “We knew going in that they were going to be a hard team,” said senior co-captain Sophie Potter. “They’re undefeated.”

The Cadets started the half with lots of offensive pressure, as they maintained possession in our defensive end for the majority of the first half. The first goal of the game came from St. Joe’s number 11, Maddie Fried. The junior captain scored with 27:33 left in the first half, giving the Cadets a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

Starting the second half, the Rams were able to keep Fried off the board until 22:24, where she scored her second goal of the night. But the rams responded 12 minutes after with a goal by Katherine Lisecky off of a corner kick from Dillyn Patten.

The Rams continued to pick up intensity, as New Canaan kept up pressure on the St. Joe’s defensive line. With a momentum swing from a yellow card for the Cadets, Rams applied the pressure.

The Rams weren’t able to pull through, with the final score being 2-1. They look to their next opponents, Darien and Staples in the weeks to come. “We’re going to work hard during practice and come together as a team to figure out what went wrong in this game, what we can do to improve, and to put that into practice and our next game,” senior co-captain Riana Afshar said.

On Wednesday, November 14 the Rams were able to bounce back against long time rival, Darien. The girls pulled out with a 2-0 win, winning the first Rivals Cup.
