The girls hockey team has officially wrapped up their regular season and are headed into the postseason with hopes of capturing both conference and state championships. The team finished the regular season with a record of 18-2, placing them second in both the FCIAC and state rankings. Their only two losses on the year were to rival Darien.
Sophomore goaltender Macyn Callahan reflected on the team’s performance during the regular season. “Our success was a full team effort,” Macyn said. “Many times, we were short bodies and had plenty of injuries, but we kept going.”

Over the year, the girls grew together and constantly improved. “I think we have learned to emphasize our strengths and hide our weaknesses,” Macyn said. “It took a couple of games to realize that everyone has a role on this team and that people have to play their part in order to win.”
Senior Captains Maddie Tully and Serena O’Connor had a large role in the team’s success. Tully had 38 goals and 15 assists, and O’Connor had 19 goals and 16 assists during the season. The two captains reached monumental milestones this season as Maddie scored her 150th career point and Serena scored her 100th against East Catholic on February 15.
Heading into the postseason, the team is focused on both mental and physical preparation. “Mentally, most of us understand that we have not accomplished anything this season yet and that this is our last chance to,” Macyn said. “Physically, we have practice every day and recently have been incorporating yoga into our practices to take better care of our bodies.”

As expected, Darien remains the toughest competition for the postseason. “Darien is always tough. They have had our number for the last two years,” Macyn said. “They have beat us eight times in a row now, so that’s gonna be a game we must be ready for.”
The girls play in the FCIAC semifinals tonight vs. third-ranked Stamford Westhill Staples, and if they manage to pull out a win, they will compete in the FCIAC championship vs. the winner of #1 Darien vs. #4 Fairfield Co-op.
