The New Canaan girls cross country team competed in the FCIAC finals meet last Monday, October 20th. Although the team came in 7th place, injured senior captain, Emma Rosenstein who was unable to compete, was not disappointed. “I think everyone did really well; a lot of people shaved a lot of time and had personal records,” she said. Cali Brannan came in first for NC and is currently the fastest freshman in the FCIAC. “She got 16th and shaved like a minute off her original time and has got a time off 15:34, which is really impressive,” Emma said.

Coach Art Brown looks forward to seeing how the group of freshmen progresses. “I thought that our freshmen did very well, we have a good group with a lot of potential and if they keep running they are going to be an outstanding team,” he said.

Senior captain and key asset to the team, Emma Rosenstein, hurt her leg in a meet against Greenwich in late September and was unable to participate in the race. Coach Brown said that this may have had an impact on the team’s results. “We probably would have come in 6th place instead of 7th if Emma ran. Had she been healthy, it probably would have made a difference. She definitely would have helped us.”

Although NC cross country didn’t come in first at FCIACs, it was a solid effort. The girls ran their last meet of the season on Saturday, October 25th, at the All Divisional State Championship meet in Manchester, CT. The team placed 8th overall, with help from Cali Brannan who came in 29th place with a time of 21:45. Junior Amanda Dobbin and Senior Emma Crowley also helped the team, receiving 49th and 51st place consecutively.
