Led by Senior Captains Serena Platt, and Lexi McCall the team finished the regular season with a record of 13-2. Key wins over Fairfield Ludlowe, and Warde helped the team build momentum throughout the season. “ This was our best year in a while, we are excited heading into the finals, and believe we can win States and FCIACS this year”, Senior Captain Lexi McCall said. Their 13-2 record was good enough to give them the number two seed in both the FCIAC and State tournaments.
The girls went into FCIACs as the number two seed after winning in the tiebreaker match against Fairfield Ludlowe 4-3 earlier in the year. A first round win against Fairfield Warde sent the girls into the second round. After another battle where the girls won 4-3 against the three seed, Fairfield Ludlowe, they made it into the third round of the tournament where they faced Darien. “ They are the toughest team in the state. If we want to win FCIACs we have to beat them”, number two singles Claire Pellegrino said. After another tough battle against Darien, they ended up falling short, 4-3 once again. They looked onto the State championship that was just around the corner.
After wins against Cheshire and Fairfield Ludlowe the girls looked on to Darien who they played in the semi finals of the CIAC championship. After losing to Darien twice earlier in the season, both by a score of (4-3) the girls looked to finally break through with a win over their rivals. “ Third time’s the charm, if we wanna state we have to beat Darien.” In the semi finals the girls finally defeated Darien in a close 4-3 match, advancing them to the finals where they played Greenwich. The girls won the CIAC state Championship by a score of 5-2.
