Spring at NCHS not only means time for new sports games and musicals, but it also gives students opportunities for clubs to excel and create various events and fundraisers. One club to create a new festival this spring is the NCHS Film Club.
NCHS Film Club is a club composed of students of all grades, with a passion for the arts and all things film. With the year slowly starting to come to an end, Film Club has decided to create their first ever Festival on April 24th, entitled the New Age Film Festival.
Junior, Jessica Dantas, is the president of Film Club, and has been working to create this festival since December. “Jenny Levine, the other president of film club came up with the idea originally last year as we were making plans for a new Film Club,” Jessica said. “We put a lot of time in thinking of a logo and deciding how we would get the message out there.”
Film Club advisor and logo creator for the festival, Ms. Sinski, has been putting together and producing the festival night with Club Liaison, Ms. Weeks. Not only have they been organizing, but they have also been reaching out to get other schools involved in this festival. “We wanted to reach out to see what other schools were doing, and by doing that, we are getting more submissions from students,” Ms. Sinski said. “We’re bringing them here, making a connection to see what they are doing, and making everything very visible.”
The club aimed for involvement from other local schools in hopes to expand the discussion on film and see how other areas were working on videos. “The kids in the club really wanted a celebration and to see creations from other students,” Ms. Weeks said. “The students are excited about film and cinema, hope to expand to other students and schools all around, and showcase their own work.”
In addition to the Film Club presidents, sophomore, Julia Means and junior, James Neville have been working on this festival, and will be hosting the award night. “As a host, it’s my job to get all the students and all the people excited about seeing their peers’ work,” Julia said. “I am going to be reading the winners and providing the entertainment for the night alongside James.”
Like Julia, James has high expectations for the festival. Julia and James arranged different activities and jokes for the night, hoping to provide the crowd with amusement during the award ceremony. “We plan on using stand up comedy and some jokes about films and about each other to make the festival fun,” James said. “I also plan to bring audience members on stage and having them perform a variety of fun tasks.”
All entries for the film festival are due April 24, for the ceremony on the night of May 28. Create and submit your films to be apart of this year’s festival!
