The field hockey team has officially wrapped up their season. The year got off to a rocky start as the team lost their first five games. They managed to turn it around, however, and finish the season with a 10-6 record, their only other loss to Wilton. In the first round of states the girls continued their winning streak, defeating Avon 6-1.
Captain Bella Cimino was proud of how the team played in the first state game. “I think that our first state game was a great reflection on how far we’ve come as a team,” she said. “We had a lot of issues in the beginning of the season, but now we are playing well. The 6-1 win shows our improvement and highlights the change of mindset.”
The team then competed in the quarterfinals against Pomperaug on Thursday, November 9th, winning 4-0 and securing their spot in the semifinals.
Captain Izzy Schuh was happy about the team’s performance as well as many individual performances. “We’ve had a lot of new people and new seniors come up this year like Senior Rani Joshi and sophomores Cara Passios, and Charlotte Lee,” she said. “Madison Ciavarelli, who’s a freshman, has been a really large contributor. But we’ve definitely had a lot of people step up this year which has been a large reason for our success.”
On Tuesday November 14th, New Canaan beat Guilford 6-2, moving to the championship game against Daniel Hand on Friday, November 18. The championship was a closely contested game but resulted in a 1-0 loss for the girls, giving them second place.
