Junior swimming superstar Edward Rudman pushes off of the block, and dives into the pool zooming past his competitors. This year, he has proved to be an amazing attribute to the NCHS swim team. This year he has made a huge splash, with his amazing record breaking times, and award winning streak especially at Nationals.

Edward joined the NCHS swim team as a freshman in high school. Boys and girls swim and dive coach Dave Fine has been able to see Edward grow in his time on the team, as an athlete. When we asked his coach Dave Fine, about improvements that he had made, “He has come a long way in a little bit of time. He is someone who fell in love with the sport as a Freshman, and has come such a long way. He fell in love with it, and started to work hard, and started to work outside, and make this a priority, and to see that growth to where we are is… special.” he said.

When we asked Edward about how he got started he said, “I guess I realized I had potential in it, and that kind of just fueled me. And once I saw that I was going faster I just kept going for it.”

Edward feels that all of his hard work has finally paid off. He was very proud of all of the improvements that he had made this year stating, “I think definitely greatest accomplishment this year was winning states. Individually, breaking state record and winning opens, is probably my greatest individual accomplishment. I was proud of the amount of time I dropped from last year.”

Coach Fine also feels that Edwards dedication, has played a considerable role in how far he has gotten. He’s proud of his accomplishments, but feels that there is always more work to be done. “Definitely technical wise, he has gotten so much better. His technique has really improved, his confidence, is something big for him that also has improved being in the sport.” But he also said how he has a long way to go. “Also know that we have a long road ahead of us, and a lot more potential, and greater things that we can do too.”

His teammate Matt Evans said that Edward has been a very strong leader for the team, and when asked about how he will lead next year he said, “I think that Edward will be a great leader for the team next year. His work ethic is like no one else and he is committed to not only helping himself but the rest of the team.”

Edward has big hopes for the future, and plans to swim on a Division I team in college, but for now, his main goal is to help the NCHS swim team reach its full potential, and succeed making sure that as a senior, he helps the NCHS swim team to become the best we have ever had. “I just hope to drop more time, repeat the state championship (the FCIAC Championship and the Open Championship). And to just have one of the best teams that the High School has had.”
