Whether it is stressful or exciting, it is time for students to sign up for next year’s courses.
In order to register for classes, students must log onto their Powerschool account and follow the instructions from there. This is the second year that the registration can be completed online. A few convenient additions have been added to the portal this year. “We have tried to clarify the instructions a bit and you’re given the opportunity to rank your course selections in terms of electives,” guidance counselor Ms. Lenci said.
There are new courses for the coming year in science, social studies and electives. The course of studies will be updated with all of the new courses. “Online there are links that can tell you what each course is all about. Make sure you know what you’re getting into before registering for a course,” guidance counselor Ms. Mitchell said. Some of these new courses include forensic science and stage set design.
Unique to incoming freshman is there will be no prerequisite in order to take the Yearbook elective. “9th graders will have the opportunity to see how the yearbook is put together,” Ms. Lenci said.
Upperclassmen have a much wider variety of courses to choose from than the underclassmen. There are many classes that are only available for juniors and seniors, including most of the new additions.
To help students with the course registration process, guidance counselors will be coming into classrooms beginning this week. On an individual level, they will take a look at what students have selected and speak with them individually about their program. “We want to make sure that you have a challenging program but are not overwhelmed,” Ms. Mitchell said.
The guidance counselors want to stress to students that they should think carefully about the choices they make, and they are here to help you do that.
