Tonight, the students in the Theatre Department are gearing up for the opening performance of the Spring musical The Apple Tree. They will also have performances tomorrow night and Saturday at the same time, with an additional matinee performance on Saturday afternoon at 2 pm.
The musical showcases theatre veterans such as Elizabeth Koennecke (playing Eve in Act 1) and Deven Appel (playing Captain Sanjar in Act 2). For them, as well as many seniors in the program, this will be one of the last times they perform on the NCHS stage.
Elizabeth admits that this last show brings a mix of sadness and happiness. “This last performance is very bittersweet for me,” she said. “I have truly loved being a part of this program as well as almost twenty performances.”
With all the set built, lines rehearsed, costumes fitted, and lighting cues practiced, sophomore Allison Demers admits that there are still nervous feelings before opening night. “Waiting backstage to enter the scene is one of the most nerve-wracking parts because you can’t see the audience,” she said. “You know they’re there but you can’t really see them yet, and you’re not really in the comfort of being onstage as your character. But once I’m on stage, it becomes second nature, and I feel very comfortable.”
Tickets are sold out for all of the evening shows, but there are still seats available for the matinee show which can be purchased here.
Make sure to support the NCHS Theatre Program and the graduating seniors by attending a performance of The Apple Tree!
