If you were to ask any NCHS student who the best hockey player in the school is, they would immediately tell you Olivia Hompe. But if you were to ask them who in our school is a four time State Champion gymnast, most people would be stumped.

The official March Madness bracket was released on Sunday night. Now that we know the tournament field, it’s time to predict the matchups. But first, here are a few thoughts on the bracket:
The committee did a really good job this year, all things considered. The most questionable inclusion into the tournament is Iona, a team that most people had written off after they lost to the Fairfield Stags in the semifinals of the NCAA tournament. Iona will play on Tuesday against BYU. Teams like Seton Hall and Drexel have legitimate gripes with Iona being chosen over them.

We’ve officially hit the date when pitchers and catchers report for spring training. That also means we’ve hit the date of starting a ridiculously long season, one that encompasses about 9 months of the year.
Baseball is a sport that can be incredibly fun to follow if your team is doing well, and rather boring to follow if your team is not doing well.

On Jan. 28th, the NCHS cheerleaders competed in their first competition of the winter season at Nonnewaug High School. The girls dominated, winning first place in every category they were entered in and leaving with a total score of 78 points.
Possibly my favorite Olympic moment was the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics in which Michael Phelps won his eighth gold medal in the games during the 4×100 medley relay, surpassing Mark Spitz’s previous record of seven gold medals in a single Olympic Games. Who doesn’t remember the glorious fist-pumping that occurred in that moment?
