This past Wednesday, November 11th, Veteran’s Day, an award-winning author, Peter Nelson, came to NCHS to discuss his non-fiction book, A More Unbending Battle, the True Story of the Harlem Hellfighters Struggle for Democracy in WWI and Equality at Home at the assembly. His book tells the story of the 369th Regiment, a unit of African American soldiers who faced extreme dangers during World War 1, but didn’t receive recognition in the United States…

What’s up NCHS?
Starting at the end of this week, we are going to be selling “feathers” with students’ names on them to stick onto paper turkeys (made by members of the Student Coalition) to raise money for the Turkey Drive. Each feather will cost a different amount. We really need your help, so please buy a feather and donate to the Turkey Drive!

The scoop on financial aid night and tips for receiving financial aid in college
On Oct. 28, the Guidance Department held its annual financial aid night in the Wagner room. Guidance counselor Lori Lewandoski said the main purpose of the event was “to disseminate information about the financial aid process.”
Ms. Lewandoski explained the benefit of organizing a presentation on financial aid. “Parents don’t want to just read the information,” she said. “Having somebody to present the process makes it much less daunting.”
