Rising Above award ceremony honors “unsung heroes”

Thirty minutes before the start of school on Tuesday, November 30th, the semi-annual Rising Above award ceremony was held in the College and Career Center. Rising Above certificates were awarded to eight individuals nominated by staff for their contribution to the school community under difficult circumstances. Attended by administration, staff, honorees, parents and relatives, the ceremony lasted twenty minutes.

6th annual Holiday Stroll will ring in the holiday season

The 6th annual New Canaan Holiday Stroll will be held tonight and tomorrow. The festivities will begin at 6 pm today with the arrival of Santa Claus, who will kick off the annual lighting of the town trees. Store hours will be extended for late evening shopping. There will also be complementary refreshments and live entertainment. The evening will come to a close at 9 pm. The celebration will continue on Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm.

Students from The Studio “want it to get better”

On September 22nd, 2010, Rutgers student, Tyler Clementi, claimed his own life after his roommate humiliated him by posting a video of Clementi kissing another man online. A month later, the Youtube Video, “We Want It to Get Better (Teens)”, was posted, involving students and instructors from the performing arts school, The Studio, based in New Canaan. Instructors at the performing arts school, located on Forest Street, decided to take action in order to prevent such casualties in the future.
