Third floor pipe backs up

A leak sprung Friday, Feb. 11, around 1:00 p.m., starting on the third floor and creating puddles of waste water in two chemistry rooms, a third floor prep room, the English Office, the Writing Center, and the spiral staircase area on both the first and second floors. According to Assistant Principal Larry Sullivan, the water is not sewer water, and not hazardous.

Girls’ ice hockey Free Skate tonight

Tonight, Friday, Feb. 4 marks the third annual Free Skate fundraiser for the girls hockey team. Benefactors who purchase the ten dollar ticket, will be welcome to Terry Conners Ice Rink in Stamford from 6:30-8:00 p.m. to participate in a variety of activities including skating and the “chuck-a-puck” competition at the end of the evening.

Sophomore team member Olivia Hompe said the fundraiser is a fun family event and noted the range of benefits the team, not funded by NCPS, derives from its proceeds.

Students participate in principal search focus group

A focus group comprised entirely of students met with members of the Search Committee looking for Principal Tony Pavia’s replacement, on Tuesday, January 25, from roughly 1:30 to 2:30 in the Wagner Room. They discussed the qualities they would look for in a principal, what students enjoy about the school, and improvements that could be made to school environment.

Second snow day this week causes more exam changes

The second snow day this week has caused further changes in the exam schedule. According to the special schedule on the NCHS homepage, “the exams will continue (in the same order) the next day the 2nd Semester will begin next Wednesday, Jan. 26, with a Day C Homeroom Schedule.” Also, according to Principal Tony Pavia’s e-mail on Jan. 18, if there is a delay on an exam day the first exam will be administered at 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. and the second exam at 11:30 to 1:00 p.m.

Snow day causes change in exam schedule

After about an inch of snowfall which turned to freezing rain early this morning, Superintendant Dr. David Abbey cancelled school. According to a special schedule posted on the high school’s website, all exams will be pushed back one day. Second semester will begin Tuesday, Jan. 25 and will follow a Day B Homeroom Schedule.
