Junior kicks her way into NCHS history

Take one look at head football coach Lou Marinelli’s roster, and you will notice one very distinct addition taking on the role of kicker this season. Junior Brianna Valente has done what no other female has done at our school before: scored a point at the varsity football level. With seven extra points already converted on the season, Brianna is giving Rams football fans a good reason to cheer for number 91.

The story began in Mr. Marinelli’s gym class last spring, during which Brianna, a sophomore at the time, caught the eye of the Rams head football coach…

Your eyes and ears of the Student Coalition

Suppy NC?

One more week until Thanksgiving! THANK goodness. Student Coalition is still going around desperately trying to collect money for the annual Turkey Drive. So far, we’ve raised around $700, but in order to reach our goal we need $1,300 more. Please help support the Fairfield County Food Bank by bringing in donations. It’s a great cause. Not everyone gets to enjoy extravagant Thanksgiving dinners, and your donations will help make their meals possible…

Sleep deprivation: My life as a homework zombie

Too hot, too cold, or just right?

For the past couple of years, many students and faculty have found their classrooms less than comfortable when it comes to temperature. Some classrooms are hot and some are cold. Why this inconsistent pattern?

Sean Killelea, teacher at NCHS, described his classroom temperature, “It’s definitely warmer than last year. Last year, I would need to come in a parka and a knit hat…”

Mr. Nelson at the Veteran’s Day Assembly

This past Wednesday, November 11th, Veteran’s Day, an award-winning author, Peter Nelson, came to NCHS to discuss his non-fiction book, A More Unbending Battle, the True Story of the Harlem Hellfighters Struggle for Democracy in WWI and Equality at Home at the assembly. His book tells the story of the 369th Regiment, a unit of African American soldiers who faced extreme dangers during World War 1, but didn’t receive recognition in the United States…
