As one of the most anticipated weeks of the school year and a longstanding tradition, spirit week unifies the entire student body through their love of the high school. Students get the opportunity to come to school in outrageous outfits, expressing both their creativity and school spirit. But somewhere along the way, the consumption of alcohol in school became a tradition. It is now commonplace to find beer cans in the bathroom and intoxicated students wandering through the hall during spirit week.

As the new school year begins, college-bound seniors are buckling down to get good first semester grades, meet application deadlines and actually get in to college. High test-scores and GPAs are not their only worries, however – keeping up a good online reputation has become more and more important with the ever-growing technology.

Hitting the books during summer vacation

For senior Julie Newton, who is currently applying to colleges, the past summer has taken on a new dimension than previous ones. “School played a huge factor in my vacation, because I’m going through the college process,” she said. “I still had to make some visits while balancing summer work for school, writing my college essay, and filling out applications.”
