Boys soccer concluded their regular season with a record of 6-5-4, finishing 11th place in the FCIAC. The season saw many highs and lows, including a rivalry win against Darien to take home the 2024 Rivals Cup.
Senior captain Rohan Shenoy explained that early losses and ties weighed heavily on the team’s motivation. “In those first few weeks, it was hard to stay motivated,” Rohan said. “But as a team, we focused on keeping our chemistry strong via team bonding activities and making sure we always had each other’s backs.”
One of the season’s standout moments came in their victory over rival Darien, who finished 3rd in the FCIAC with a 10-4-2 record. The Rams’ 3-1 victory marked the team’s first win over the Blue Wave in a decade and earned them their first-ever Rival’s Cup trophy. “Our team celebrations afterward were amazing and I won’t ever forget it,” Rohan said.
For Senior captain Brooks Wunderlich, the win held extra significance as it was the first time he played alongside his younger brother, Will, who scored his first varsity goal in the win. “Holding up the Rival’s Cup trophy with my brother and getting a photo was something I’ll never forget,” Brooks said.
Senior captain Will Arnold highlighted the importance of staying positive, particularly after the challenging moments throughout the season. “We always make sure not to criticize each other too much and when we have losses, we know we all make mistakes, so we try to lift each other up,” he said.
Despite not qualifying for the FCIAC playoffs, Will is hopeful for the future of New Canaan Boys Soccer. “We had several standout players this year that were underclassmen,” he said. “Will Wunderlich, Dylan Ho, Marco Tiganelli and others represent the future that this program has.”
